Memorandum of Agreement to be signed today

It's been a very long six months and lots of hard work to get to where we are today. Weather you're a proponent or an appponent of this agreement, there is a tremendous amount of relief felt by all. The facts are that this is a new beginning for this mill with a bright future ahead of us. Daryl De Rooy and Phil Guild deserve a huge thanks for all the effort and head banging plus the many sleepless night that we all experienced since last July. Also the entire membership of CEP Local 592 deserves a huge thank you for your support and patience. Its going to be a very big change for all of us and we will all have to work together to make this agreement work . The next steps and roll out will be comming soon with the full implementation to be complete by May 1st 2008. #4 PM will be up and running by May 1st and the CTMP expansion should be complete in or about 16 months.

Pete Rayburn
President CEP Local 592

  1. Any idea what the recall senority date might be?

  2. I wouldn't even hazard to guess where the line for seniority might end up. We will have a better idea once the retirement packages and enhanced severance packages are spoken for.

  3. Just a quick question for you pete. Now that this project is a go ahead and there is going to be contractors all over the mill, will everybody be working or just the tradesmem again? Im just wondering if 21 years of union dues is enough!!. signed Brian Guy.

  4. I haven't been made aware that there is going to be "contractors all over the mill" as a result of the new agreement. If you're asking me if 21 yrs will make it, I can't answer that but to be truthful it may be a stretch, but like I've said we don't have any idea where the line will be until all of the packages and severances are taken. You should be recieving a letter in the near future explaining the enhanced severance offer.

  5. I've heard that if every eligible592 Member that is 55+ took their Packages;that the Labour side of our union would need June,1984 or better to have a job.I would suggest asking Mary Ruel to confirm. Please post here if she confirms this,as many of our members would like to know.

  6. As of yesterday, not everyone in 592 has elected to take the package. Until the deadline date is reached (February 22 I believe) then there can be no definitive answer as to a precise seniority date needed to be in the mill. However, I believe (if I recall correctly) that the date does fall somewhere in 1984.

As soon as that first deadline is reached, we will have a better idea of a more precise date.

  7. I would personally like to thank the wage delgates of this local for enduring the extreme pressure put on them by both parties. A very difficult job indeed and I hope you can take a breath and sit back for a while. I think the membership of this local should be very grateful indeed for the fact that you never stopped, you kept going until you could go no more. You reached a land mark agreement and we all should be proud of that. Yes, I am one of the people who has accepted a package, but even if you were not in favour of the agreement, it has saved your jobs, because the fact is , as a one machine mill, we were doomed. This way you still get to work in a place with very good benifits and a very good wage.I know you have given up your choice to choose time off, but with out this agreement, you would have had all the time off you wanted. Look around the country, mills going down, unions asked to give up $5 and hour plus. Over all I think we did very well and we have a very viable mill now, and I hope for years to come. I wish it could have brought back more members, but that is just not to be. Again thank you to the excecutive of this local and to the membership for having the forsight to do the right thing.
