Enhanced Severance Offers Concluded

The Enhanced Severance Offer has been concluded. All 592 Members that applied received the enhanced severance package for a total of 33 people and a total cost of $1,472,625.16. Obviously there are insufficient funds to carry on to the next step (further retirement packages). The seniority date required to be recalled to the mill is now May 8th 1984. This date may be adjusted by 2 positions in the future due to a shortage of ticketed people in the Steam Plant. The date may move up to April 30th 1984 if the Steam Plant is successful in their attempts to hire two ticketed people.

For all those that accepted the enhanced severances, I wish you good luck in your future endeavours.

    Due to some concerns over some privacy issues, we decided not to put the names out at this time. We would like to put their names out so we can recognize these guys for their years of service etc. but by doing so we are bound to piss someone off. Just want to cover our butts under the Privacy Act.

  3. What is the difference between retiring and taking severance when it comes to privacy acts ? You post one list but not the other. I still dont see why other locals have an up to date seniority list posted on there websites but yet we cant have an up to date one on our webpage or at our union hall. Why is that ?

    The number of people that took the enhanced severance and the resulting lay-off date is your business. Who those people are and what there seniority was and why they didn't want their names posted is none of your business.

    Retirement is a long awaited accomplishment for most people and can be a reason for celebration and recognition. Being severed from your employment is usually not something to be celebrated and can be embarassing for some and putting their names out only makes it more distasteful. Perhaps we will put their names up on this blog at a more appropriate time in order to recognize these brothers and sisters for their years of service to this local. Not just for the purpose of using this info so you can cross their names off your little list.

    I was wondering when the rest of us klingons May 14 1984 or less, will be stripped of our old Dept. seniority??
    Will the Mill senior people move ahead of the Dept.senior people(ex GWD)in the weekly Mech. Pulp lineup?? If that is the case will the old GWD crew (below the line) be left to relieve the bottom job(Peroxide)?? That would result in the ideal situation where we will be training the new Perox. operators to permanently displace us, a tough pill to swallow after a quarter century in one Department.
    Also wondering if there will be new Dept. Crew lists drawn up next week??
    One last question, is the May 8th date bare bones as you stated previously, or will there be any relief/utility. The company has been heard to say no one below the line will ever work for them again, how will that play out. Will they work overtime contrary the contract??
    Would really appreciate an answer to these 5 questions, so myself and others can start to put this two year barrel roll behind us.I am just loading the boat for a 2 day prawn trip do I need a 26 or 40
    of dark and dirty?

    Actually anyone below Jan 10th 84 will no longer retain any dept seniority. Any one above that date has the right to a posted job and have exercized their dept seniority to get back to their departments. There are also aprox 10 people also above that date that did not make it back to there departments for various reasons and they get the postings left before we go below Jan 10th. There is also a small relief pool of aprox 7 people that goes to May 8th 84 that will be trained for relief in the various departments. When and if you are called in you don't have a claim to a dept. any longer. The crew line ups are mostly done at this time and I think Mary will be putting those out soon. With all the training that has to happen I feel that it will be some time before we get to that May 84 line. Definitely a 40 and perhaps 2.

    Aparrantly the word is JUST getting out on THAT one????

    What else should we expect to hear that we diden't know about?

    I smell somthing bad my freind.

    You have got me at a loss. I really don't know what your talking about when you say the "pension thingy". Maybe you have heard a rumor that I haven't. What have you heard?

    The way I heard it us shift workers
    will only quallify for our full pention hours 3 out of the next 5 years.Or you could say 3 crews out of 5 over the next 5 years!

    I Don't know where that one came from but it is absolutely false. All the shift workers that are here today will make over their maximum pensionable hours of 2080. It will be in the future when we have junior people that will not make their maximum but will make the minimum of 1700 hrs for a pensionable year.
